A moving unstructured staggered mesh method for the simulation of incompressible free-surface flows

چکیده
A new moving staggered mesh discretization for the numerical simulation of incompressible flow problems involving free-surfaces is presented. The method uses the staggered mesh to obtain speed and conservation properties. Mesh motion provides a high quality mesh in the interior and detailed resolution of the free-surface motion on the surface. Mesh flipping allows for optimal mesh connectivity to be maintained. The method uses an exact projection procedure which reduces the number of unknowns as well as satisfying the continuity constraint without solving a pressure Poisson equation. The implementation of surface tension forces in the staggered mesh framework is discussed. The resulting method is tested against analytical solutions for liquid sloshing and free-surface channel flow. It is also demonstrated on the cases of droplet collision, three-dimensional sloshing, and turbulence next to a free-surface. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. AMS: 65P10; 76D05; 76M25

Numerical Simulation of Free-surface Flows Using a Moving Unstructured Mesh
A new moving mesh approach is used for numerical simulation of incompressible flow problems involving freesurfaces. The divergence form of the Navier-Stokes equation is discretized using an unstructured staggered mesh method. This method exploits the inherent advantages of the DelaunayVeronoi co-volumes, which exhibit an orthogonal behavior. The paper also describes the semi-Lagrangian mesh ada...
متن کاملSimulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm
This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...

Simulation of free surface flow and sudden wave profile are recognized as the most challenging problem in computational hydraulics. Several Eulerian/Lagrangian approaches and models can be implemented for simulating such phenomena in which the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) is categorized as a proper candidate. The incompressible SPH (ISPH) method hires a precise incompressible hy...

The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...

Abstract The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...
